Solidarity and Sisterhood

by Linda Sullivan

"Nothing can be more absurd than the practice that prevails in our country of men and women not following the same pursuits with all their strengths and with one mind, for thus, the state instead of being whole is reduced to half."
-Plato, The Laws

Recently there has been a lot of discussion about the requirement that members belong to National Tri-Ess in order to join a local chapter. In a nutshell, it all comes down to solidarity and sisterhood. We as a chapter can only be as strong as the main organization to which we are affiliated.

As a members of a local chapter we receive many benefits, both tangible and intangible. We are provided with a secure meeting place where we can feel comfortable dressing. We also have the knowledge that we can bring our spouse/SO or a family member to a meeting and they will also feel secure and welcomed. Some members have formed friendships and enjoy activities together that don’t have anything to do with crossdressing. Would these people have ever met if it hadn’t been for this chapter?

We get the Mirror quarterly so we can read the opinions and adventures of others such as our selves. Oh, I never read the Mirror you say. Ladies, for some people, that publication is their only link to other crossdressers. They don’t have a local chapter in their area where they can enjoy the fellowship of others.

We have speakers come into our meetings as well as having the opportunity to do outreach in the community ourselves. You get the idea.
