D.C. Police Discover Body In S.E.

UPDATED: 8:27AM EDT August 21, 2003

WASHINGTON -- D.C. police are investigating a second transgender male found murdered in a week.

Investigators said they were called to the 200 block of Malcolm X Avenue, SE, at about 2:30AM, Thursday morning, to investigate a report of a body found in a field.

When police arrived, they said they discovered a partially nude woman who appeared to be shot to death. But after closer examination, authorities said the body is that of a transgender male.

Detectives told News4 reporter Megan McGrath that the head wounds are so severe that they will have to wait for the results of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have not released the victim's identity, but they said he is from the southeast area.

Wednesday evening, police say another black male-to-female transgender individual was found near 3rd and I Streets, Northwest suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and is in serious condition. The case has been classified as an assault with intent to kill. No motive is known at this time.

Another transgender male-to-female was killed last Saturday. An arrest has been made in that case.
