Shana's Two Cents
Curl your eyelashes first!
Put your eyeliner on after that.
On the lower lid, apply it below the eyelashes, and go about halfway over to the nose from the outer edge. Blend. You don't want it to look like a line.
On the top lid, you want to go all the way over.
A cute trick used by girls today is to put a narrow band of white or bright baby blue right over the top eyelashes, and then put the black or gray over that, leaving about 1/16" to 1/8" of the light stuff showing.
Daytime eyes should be very light in their presence. Just enough to define the eyes.
Eyeshadow should be kept to a single color - charcoal gray, gray are today's colors. Keep black (and other colors) for the nights. A lot of women today aren't even using the stuff anymore during the day.
For evenings and formal outings, you can go a lot heavier in the appearance and use two or three complimentary colors.
As for the mascara, you have several choices: waterproof or not, regular or lash extending.
If you wear contacts, put them in after you're finished with your makeup, and use the waterproof stuff (if you put them in before you do makeup, you won't be able to see well enough to do a good makeup job).
Leave the extending stuff for thicker lashes for going out at night, it's too heavy for the day.
Use a color that matches the rest of your coloring.
Make sure the lashes don't clump together, it's another 50's thing.
Don't share mascara with someone else unless you are both germ sterile (actually, it's good advice for all makeup).
