Shana's Two Cents
What you do with this step will determine how well you look after putting on every thing else. Just build a crummy foundation for your house one time and see what happens!
What Roxy said about foundation is absolutely correct, for most of us - it needs to be heavier than the stuff GG's use.
There are precious few of us who have the nice smooth skin like women. To be fair, yes, there are GG’s out there with less than perfect skin (similar to ours), who need to go to the same lengths we do (sans the beard cover).
The object of applying foundation is to achieve a consistent, even skin tone.
I do take issue with one of his comments, and that was the one dealing with the need to carry the foundation down the neck (and even onto the chest if you shave down that far for that special, low cut dress). If you have perfect skin, no, you don't need to. If you have splotchy or rough skin, and you don’t, you will have a pretty face and that's it.
To obtain "the look", you need to cover it all.
Any of you who saw Pamela Anderson on her VIP show know what I mean. She didn’t wake up looking that good! The pictures I have seen of her without makeup are pretty atrocious.
Blend, blend, blend, that can’t be stressed enough either.
Use a sponge for application. It won’t leave streaks like your fingers will. Besides which, it’s difficult to blend with your fingers!
This is all part and parcel of "creating the illusion".
Once finished with applying the foundation, set it with powder.
Most powders are translucent, but they can still change your face color. Choose a powder that matches your skin tone and minimizes the color change.
Use the puff that comes with the powder, then use a big, soft makeup brush to remove the excess.
A couple of things Roxy didn’t mention: Use moisturizer under the foundation and/or beard cover. And secondly (this may sound dumb at first, but it really does work), use anti-perspirant under your makeup for going out in the summer if you sweat easily.
Okay, on to the finishing touches. The sequence after beard concealer and foundation isn't too important, altho I would be inclined to leave the lips for last, just in case you brush up against them.
